Do you welcome new members?

Yes, Yeadon Sailing Club is a private members club and we are more than happy to welcome new members. See the Sail at Yeadon SC page for more information.

Do I have to be able to sail to join?

No, come to one of our Come & Try sessions and see if you like sailing then, if you do, you can join in as part of our Tuesday night training sessions and go through our structured practical and online theory training course. See Sail at Yeadon SC page for more information.

Can I store my boat at the sailing club?

Yes, we have storage facilities for sailing dinghies in the dinghy park. We do have a 15ft size limit rule (no bigger than) and we only store sailing dinghies. See the membership page for more information on this.

Do you have any age restrictions?

We generally only take children of 8 or above, this is due to the size of the buoyancy aids we have and also they need to be able to follow clear instructions. Some of our regular race leaders are 70+ and show no signs of slowing down.

Do I need to be able to swim?

Yes, you need to be able to swim and be confident around water.

What equipment do I need to bring to go sailing?

Bring an old pair of trainers, a wind and waterproof top. If it’s sunny, bring suntan lotion and a cap, if it’s cold, bring a woolly hat. Avoid jeans and cotton as it can be very cold when wet. It’s usually a degree or two cooler on the water so bear this in mind. Always bring a towel and a change of clothing, people sometimes fall in! We will provide buoyancy aids and will give you instruction.

Can I hire a boat?

Members can borrow club boats for club activities but we don’t hire boats to the general public.

I have a party booking query or I would like to book a party for a corporate, birthday or club?

Unfortunately we don’t cater for birthdays or other events. Please contact our next-door neighbour the Leeds Sailing and Activity Centre to find out what they can offer you.

Can I SUP/Kayak/Canoe/Row/Windsurf on the Tarn with YSC?

We are currently only able to offer Dinghy Sailing on the Tarn and we are very enthusiastic about trying to allow as many people as possible to enjoy sailing – we would be happy to help you to learn to sail even if you have no experience. If one of the other activities is more to your liking then it’s probably worth contacting out neighbour, the Leeds Sailing and Activity Centre to see how they might help.

Can I get an RYA certificate?

We are not able to offer RYA certification at the moment. Although we can train you to the same standard, we are not an RYA centre and cannot issue certificates. Please contact our next-door neighbour the Leeds Sailing and Activity Centre to find out what they can offer you.
