This week, Yeadon Sailing Club was chosen to host two special visitors from the Royal Yachting Association. Sara Sutcliffe, CEO and Adam McGovern, Regional Manager NE & NW, joined in the weekly training session at Yeadon Tarn to see for themselves how enthusiasm for this exciting sport is growing in Leeds.
Sara Sutcliffe remarked that:
“It was a delight to see so many boats out on the water with both juniors and adults benefiting from actively engaging in sailing and gaining a real boost to their health and wellbeing by being absorbed in the beautiful setting of Yeadon Tarn”
Andy McGovern was particularly pleased to see so many new members out in the water remarking:
“We are sharing Yeadon Sailing Club’s approach right across the county. The response to their affordable membership scheme is really encouraging to other clubs as it has introduced so many new people to the sport”
Sara and Andy went on to meet members aged from 8 to 80 years old, one just starting out learning the sport and the other being an accomplished transatlantic sailor, with 26,000 miles under her belt. It was great to see the RYA supporting the club’s training team and even taking a moment to feed the ducks.
Summing the evening up, Jackie Friend, Club Secretary said:
“I was pleased to see the club looking so good as members took to the water for an evening’s training session in the sunshine and with a pleasant breeze helping them make progress in their sailing journeys. It was great to see the RYA supporting our training team and even taking a moment to feed the ducks”
On the night, the sailing club was looking good with members taking to the water in 21 different boats for their evening’s training session.
