Jim visiting YSC in 2016

Jim joined YSC in the mid 1960s.  His first boat was Heron 1492 which he learned to sail guided by notable YSC members such as Arthur Pinkney, Guy Locke and Geoff Wheater.  After a few years he swapped the Heron for Enterprise E1107 built by Barry Pratt and Brian Hobley, and later he bought a kit of parts from Bill Bacon and built his own Enterprise E16168.  He was a keen sailor and took his boats on various family holidays to The Lake District. Scotland, Anglesey, South Wales and Cornwall, teaching his children Paul & Sally Ann to sail along the way.  He was Commodore of YSC in 1976, after which he sailed a Solo until he ‘retired’ from sailing and moved to live in Ripon.  More recently he enjoyed visiting the club in 2016, and again on the 90th Anniversary Weekend in 2018.
